My Information Skills

Self-paced tutorials on research and study skills for TAFE SA students

Your audience

Before presenting information you need to think about who the information is for. This is your audience. Think about the level of knowledge and understanding of your audience. Also think about the best way to communicate your information.

For example:

  • If you are presenting a talk to a group of students who are learning English as a second language, you would use simple words and lots of images.
  • If you are writing an essay for a diploma level course, you would use more professional language and longer sentences.

Ask these questions:

  • Does my audience already know some of this?
  • How much background information will I need to provide?
  • Can I build on what my audience already knows?
  • Will this interest my audience?
  • How can I make it interesting?
