Using AI in your assignments

When used ethically, AI can improve and help you with your learning at TAFE SA. On this page we provide some basic information to help you understand what AI is and how you can use it appropriately in your studies.

Academic integrity means being honest and ethical in your academic work. It means doing your own work, not copying from others, giving credit to the sources you used in your work and following rules and guidelines set by TAFE SA.

Taking shortcuts may seem like you are saving on time, but it can prevent you from fully understanding and learning important information. If you have a feeling that something is not right, or that you might be skipping important steps, trust your instincts. Take the time to fully comprehend and learn a concept rather than rushing through it.

How to Research

Searching the library catalogue
All TAFE SA students receive automatic library membership which gives you access to a range of online
resources as well as access to physical resources and services at all TAFE SA campuses.

As a TAFE SA student, you have access to many online resources via the TAFE SA library website, this guide will take you through how to access and use them
Google Scholar
Google Scholar is:
• a subcategory of Google Web Search that enables you to find free scholarly articles that
you can cite for TAFE essays and research assignments.
• a free academic search engine that enables you to search specifically scholarly literature
and academic resources from reputable publishers

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

Critical Reading
When reading journals, books, websites, or other resources you come across, you need to be critical of
what you read. In other words, whether you are using online or print resources, all material is subject to
evaluation.
Evaluating websites
Published resources – books, videos, magazines and journals are subject to a review process. This
ensures that certain publication standards are met and that they contain accurate information. The
internet, however, is not owned or governed by any particular organisation, therefore the same standards
do not apply to the information posted onto it. Before using a website you should check the quality and
appropriateness of the information it contains.

Creating a policy or plan

Report Writing
Reports are structured documents that present information about something you have researched or
investigated. Their structure makes it easy for the reader to find information within the report.

Creating a presentation

Presentation guide
This is a general guide to giving an oral presentation. Course requirements may vary within different
courses so please check with your lecturer.
Power Point Presentation
PowerPoint can be used to present a variety of information, which can be text, photos, charts, videos
and sound.
