What is Techstreet?

  • Information on how to create a Techstreet account to access Australian Standards
  • Tips for searching through Techstreet
  • Details on how to contact the Library for assistance

As a TAFESA student you have access to most Australian Standards via Techstreet.

  • we have several concurrent user licences - that means several users can download from this database at once. If all licences are in use, please try again in a few minutes.

NOTE: all users will be required to install FileOpen plugin in conjunction with Adobe Acrobat.
Installation options - https://plugin.fileopen.com/all.aspx
How can you tell if the File Open Plugin has been installed?

Within Adobe Acrobat Help > About Third-Party Plug-Ins >

check if FileOpen is listed.

OR/  try this test link: http://www.techstreet.com/direct/www-spdf-test.pdf

Standards are protected by FileOpen which is Digital Rights Management (DRM) software to control or prevent digital
copies from being shared over computer networks. Techstreet welcome page also includes links to assist with
downloading DRM software.

If using Windows 11 S Mode- you will need to adjust security settings to allow FileOpen to be installed as it isn't listed within Microsoft Store

Switching out of S mode in Windows - Microsoft Support

If using macOS Install the plug-in at https://plugin.fileopen.com/

  1. Choose macOS 10.9+ Installer for macOS 10.9 or above. If you have mac OS 12, choose "click here" under the FileOpen Installer for Macintosh section
  2. Complete all steps until you receive the Installation Complete message

Do not change the file name of any downloaded Techstreet PDF

Retain the original  file name 00-3621861514-primary - any file name change will affect the DRM and render the file useless.

TIP: For file management create a Folder and name that with the Standards Name and Number then copy the protected PDF to that folder

FAQ

Can I rename the PDF file/s?

No. Make sure you have not changed the name of the file when it was saved. This can result in a blank PDF.

Under the DRM – Digital Rights Management – you can not ‘rename’ downloaded Techstreet PDFs...

  • You need to retain the original file names –eg:  00-3621861514-primary
  •  Consider creating a Folder and place the protected PDF within that named Folder:

I'm unable to login to Australian Standards.

If you are having trouble logging in, please verify the following:

  • You are using the correct website (https://subscriptions.techstreet.com/). Ensure you are not trying to log into techstreet.com or some other website.
  • You are using a valid TAFESA  email address and is it spelled correctly.
  • You are entering the password correctly. Note: Passwords are case-sensitive.

Note: TAFESA currently has 5 concurrent licenses, meaning the number of users able to access at one time is restricted. If this happens, wait a few hours and try again.

Why am I seeing the message "This document is licensed for a maximum number of concurrent users. At present all seats are occupied. Please try again in 10 minutes."?

This means that there are more than 5 people trying to access the standard at the same time. TAFESA has 5 concurrent user licences. Wait 10 minutes, and then try to access the standard again.

Technical Support Help FileOpen and the Chrome Browser

If you are unable to read PDFs using the FileOpen plugin in the Google Chrome browser, this is easy to resolve. Google Chrome no longer supports Adobe Acrobat for reading PDFs in the browser. Instead, you can update the Site Settings in Chrome so that PDFs are downloaded to your desktop, where you can open them using Adobe Acrobat. Follow the simple directions below to ensure Chrome allows you to use Acrobat as the PDF reader.

      • Step 1: Enter chrome://settings/content in the browser’s location bar

      • Step 2: Google Chrome’s “Site Settings” will load. Scroll down until you see the Content section.

      • Step 3: Scroll down, and click on “Additional Content Settings”. The menu will expand and show a PDF documents option.

      • Step 4: Click on “PDF documents”.

      • Step 5: A new PDF Documents option will load. Click on the “Download PDFs” radio button, if it’s not already selected. This will prevent Chrome from loading PDFs in the Chrome browser itself, and will use your default PDF reader instead.
